Even though his shooter, George Zimmerman, was ultimately acquitted, it will forever be debated whether he was legitimately defending himself or committed cold-blooded murder. Homicides involving the alleged use of self-defense are often the subject of debate because it is difficult to definitively prove or disprove what really happened. In some cases, people have used a self-defense claim to successfully get away with murder. In others, a person has been unjustly prosecuted for simply defending their own life. Whatever the outcome, self-defense cases usually manage to generate controversy.
